Allitar -- Art by Scott Kolins Allitar

Allitar is believed to be the most powerful...and the most dangerous...magic-user to have ever lived. His unbriddled quest for knowledge and power led him to unlock the secrets of The Abyss. It was Allitar's creation of a portal to The Abyss which allowed the demons and devils to escape their prison within The Abyss and unleash their fury upon the world. The magic-users of the world joined forces to confront Allitar in a battle to close the portal in what marked the culmination of the Demon-Gate Wars. All magic-users, including Allitar, perished in that battle but the portal was sealed.

The study of magic has been outlawed since the time of the Iron Triangle, which reigned after the fall of Allitar.

Lavana -- Art by Scott Kolins Lavana

Considered to be one of the brightest mages of all time, history remembers little of the actual events of Lavana's life. What is known is that she befriended Allitar and Paskin while enrolled in a spellcasters' academy. She disappeared around the same time Allitar set off in search of Ishma's Tower. Lavana resurfaced during the Demon-Gate Wars and led the mages of the world against her former lover.

Paskin -- Art by Scott Kolins Paskin

Paskin is one of the most recognized figures in magical lore. A friend of Allitar's at a very young age, Paskin went on to become one of the bright young stars among magic-users. He is credited with reforming the spellcaster academies and returning them to glory as the most respected institutions of higher learning. Unfortunately, Paskin's life was cut short as he met a tragic death while still fairly young. Among magic-users, the debate still continues over how great Paskin would have been had he lived a full life.

A great deal of mystery still surrounds Paskin's death. According to record, Paskin was killed by a mysterious creature that many believe was a female demon. However, this is largely discarded as an impossibility as the portal to The Abyss, which freed the demons and devils from their prison, was not opened until many decades after Paskin's death.

Paskin was married at the time of his death although no record can be found which mentions his wife's name.

Vaaldrym -- Art by Bryan Heyboer Vaaldrym

According to dwarvish legend, in every age there is a single dragon that rules over all other dragons and upon this dragon is bestowed the title of "Vaaldrym" (from the dwarvish language, "Vaal" means "king" and "Drym" is the dwarvish word for "dragon"). The Vaaldrym rules until he or she is challenged and overthrown by force.

The dwarves also believe that there was once a dragon that earned the title of Vaaldrym at a very young age and who ruled for so long that his true name was forgotten over time. This dragon simply became known as THE Vaaldrym and no other dragon has carried the title since then.
